YOSEMA Executive Secretary Receives Yusufari LGA Chairman for Update on Flood Disaster
Today, Sunday 8th September 2024, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), Dr. Goje Mohammed, received in his office the Executive Chairman of Yusufari Local Government Area (LGA), who was in Damaturu to submit findings from the LGA’s Ad-hoc Committee on Flood Disaster.
Yusufari LGA is one of the hardest-hit areas in the 2024 flooding crisis, recording over 4,100 victims, with numerous injuries and fatalities. During the meeting, the Chairman was informed via a distressing call that a building collapse in Yusufari had tragically claimed the lives of a father and his child.
Dr. Goje Mohammed expressed his deep concern over the ongoing challenges faced by flood victims, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to supporting affected communities. “Yusufari is facing severe impacts from this year’s floods, and we are working tirelessly to ensure that all necessary support reaches those in need,” he said.
Governor Mai Mala Buni has directed YOSEMA to operate beyond regular working days, including weekends, to address the emergency situation. Dr. Goje emphasized that the agency would continue to close gaps in its response efforts and provide urgent assistance to flood-affected regions across the state.
The meeting underscores the urgency of the situation in Yobe State, with response efforts being intensified to alleviate the suffering of affected populations.
