YOSEMA CORP MEMBERS CONDUCT MENSTRUAL HYGIENE…

In a commendable effort to promote menstrual health and hygiene, Youth Corpers serving with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) organized a sensitization campaign for vulnerable adolescent girls in the Nayi Nawa community of Damaturu Local Government Area. This initiative was part of the End of Service Year program for 32 Corp members serving with SEMA.

The campaign, which took place on Thursday, 3rd October 2024, brought together over 150 adolescent girls from the community. Sponsored by SEMA, the event aimed to educate young girls on essential aspects of menstrual hygiene and overall health promotion.

A total of 25 Corp members facilitated the campaign, which was divided into three informative sections. The first section focused on menstrual hygiene, educating the girls on how to manage their menstrual periods effectively. The second section addressed the prevention of toilet infections and understanding ovulation, while the third section covered broader health promotion topics.

During the event, the Executive Secretary of SEMA officially inaugurated the campaign and engaged with the participants. To encourage active participation, tokens were awarded to those who answered the facilitators’ questions correctly. Additionally, each of the 150 girls received menstrual hygiene kits, which included two packs of sanitary pads, two pieces of bar soap, detergent, and underwear.

The initiative not only provided practical knowledge but also empowered the young girls to take better care of their health. The Corp members’ dedication and the support from SEMA underscore the importance of community-based health education and the positive impact it can have on vulnerable populations.

This campaign marks a significant step towards improving menstrual health awareness and hygiene practices among adolescent girls in Nayi Nawa and other parts of the state, contributing to their overall well-being and safety.
