Yobe State Strengthens Commitment to Durable Solutions: 3-Day Workshop Aligns 2026 Budget with State Action Plan on Internal Displacement
The Yobe State Government has taken another bold step toward achieving durable solutions for displaced persons and vulnerable communities. In collaboration with Save the Children, Nigeria and with funding support from the Switzerland Swiss Development & Cooperation (SDC), the Yobe State Durable Solutions Secretariat successfully conducted a 3-day capacity-building workshop for Directors of Planning, Research, and Statistics (DPRS) from key Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Held from October 6th to 8th, 2025, at the R&K Guest Palace Hotel in Kano, the workshop focused on “Aligning the State Action Plan (SAP) on Durable Solutions with the 2026 State Budget.” The goal was clear — to ensure that the priorities of the SAP are fully reflected and financed in the upcoming 2026 budget, thereby accelerating recovery, resilience, and sustainable development in Yobe State.
Over 55 participants, including DPRS representatives, MDA officials, and partners, engaged in interactive sessions designed to:
✅ Deepen understanding of the State Action Plan and its priority interventions.
✅ Build capacity to mainstream SAP goals into sectoral plans, budgets, and policies.
✅ Explore financing options through state allocations, federal support, and donor/private sector engagement.
✅ Strengthen coordination, monitoring, and evaluation mechanisms between MDAs, the Durable Solutions Secretariat, and host communities.
Key outcomes of the workshop include:
Development of sectoral action plans integrating SAP priorities into the 2026 budget.
Commitments from MDAs to dedicate at least 5% of their annual budgets toward SAP implementation.
Strengthened collaboration between government institutions and development partners.
Enhanced capacity for resource mobilization and results-based reporting.
Participants expressed renewed confidence in aligning budgets with solution-focused programs that address internal displacement and vulnerability. The workshop also emphasized the importance of inclusive planning that leaves no one behind, particularly displaced persons, women, and children.
Recommendations from the session called for continuous follow-up to track SAP integration progress, expansion of the training to other DPRS units, and adoption of digital M&E systems for real-time tracking and accountability.
This milestone marks a significant stride in Yobe State’s leadership on durable solutions, reflecting the state’s vision under the leadership of His Excellency Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, to build resilience and restore dignity for all affected communities.
The Executive secretary SEMA who heads the DS secretariate while thanking SCI and Swiss Government for the continuous support and funding in line with SAP said Through collaboration, planning, and accountability, Yobe State will continue to lead by setting a strong example in Nigeria’s pursuit of sustainable, inclusive recovery.
