The Yobe State Government, through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and Office of the State Security Adviser, in collaboration with Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative (AHNi) and with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has commenced another round of Skills Acquisition Training for Volunteer Security Outfits across the state.

The training, currently taking place in the Potiskum Zone, brings together 106 beneficiaries drawn from Potiskum, Fika, Fune, and Nangere Local Government Areas. Participants are being equipped with practical livelihood skills aimed at strengthening self-reliance and fostering positive contributions to community development.

The training covers five specialized skill areas:

1. Aluminum Pot Production
2. Charcoal Briquette Making
3. Interlock Brick Production
4. Painting and POP
5. Solar Installation

Speaking on the programme, the Executive Secretary of Yobe SEMA, Dr Goje Mohammed, emphasized the importance of empowering volunteer security members with skills that promote sustainability and resilience. He added that, skills acquisition is a gateway to empowerment, dignity, and independence. Beyond providing immediate security support to their communities, our volunteers will now acquire lifelong trades that ensure sustainable livelihoods and reduce dependency.

While the Potiskum Zone training is ongoing, similar sessions for other zones across Yobe State will commence soon, providing broader coverage and more opportunities for volunteers across the state.

This training keys into Yobe State Government deliberate support to improve livelihood opportunities of Voluntary Security Outfits as well as commitment of the Office of the State Security Adviser, and its partners to promote peace, economic empowerment, and community resilience through human capitalĀ development.
