Yobe State Engages in High-Level Workshop to Drive Financing for Durable Solutions to Internal Displacement

In a strategic move to strengthen its approach towards addressing protracted displacement, Yobe State, represented by Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Goje Mohammed led the state team in a high-profile workshop at the United Nations House in Abuja. The event, which also saw the involvement of the State Project Coordinator and Focal Person of the World Bank SOLID Project, as well as the Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics (DPRS) from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development (MHADM), focused on aligning state action plans with key national and global best practices, strategies and inclusivity.

The workshop, led by Mr. Amine Hillal from the UN Secretary-General’s Office of the Special Adviser on Solutions to Internal Displacement, brought together senior representatives from various UN agencies, Federal Ministries of Budget, Housing, and National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons. The main objective was to review state-level plans on livelihood, job creation, while placing housing at the heart of the solutions agenda.

Discussions centered on fostering coordination and ensuring access to financing as critical pathways for sustainable solutions. Key stakeholders, including Family Homes and other private sector actors, deliberated on how to align resources to support IDPs and address their long-term resettlement needs.

Yobe State is expected to present its position on the thematic areas discussed, with an emphasis on maximizing opportunities for resource mobilization to drive implementation of its durable solutions for IDPs.
