YOBE STATE EMPOWERS 300 VOLUNTEER SECURITY MEMBERS WITH LIVELIHOOD SKILLS
Yobe State Empowers 300 Volunteer Security Members with Livelihood Skills in Damaturu, Buni Yadi, and Potiskum
The Yobe State Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative (AHNi), has commenced a large-scale empowerment program targeting 300 members of the state’s volunteer security outfits.
The beneficiaries are currently undergoing intensive hands-on training across three centers — Damaturu, Buni Yadi, and Potiskum — in various livelihood skills, including:
Aluminium Pot Making
Charcoal Briquette Production
Interlocking Brick Production
Painting and POP Design
Solar Installation
As part of the ongoing monitoring exercise, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje, visited the Damaturu training centers to ensure full compliance, accountability, and punctuality among participants.
Dr. Goje noted that while these volunteers play vital roles in maintaining community security, it is equally important to equip them with sustainable skills that promote self-reliance and economic independence.
“We are moving beyond immediate security interventions by empowering our volunteer corps with practical, income-generating trades. This initiative gives them a pathway to dignity, empowerment, and long-term resilience,” Dr. Goje stated during the visit.
He emphasized that empowering community-based security volunteers with alternative livelihood skills strengthens local economies, reduces dependency, and fosters true community resilience across Yobe State.
