YOBE SEMA PARTICIPATE IN NORTH-WEST FLOOD SIMULATION EXERCISE

Yobe SEMA Participates in North-West Flood Simulation Exercise “Ceton Rayuka” in Kano

Yobe State, through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), continues to demonstrate strong commitment to disaster preparedness and risk reduction.

This was clearly reflected during the just-concluded North West Geo-political Zone Flood Response Simulation Exercise (SIMEX), code-named “Ceton Rayuka”, held in Wudil, Kano State, with participation from sister agencies in Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, and others.

The week-long SIMEX assessed the region’s readiness to respond to dam-release-induced flooding along River Kano down to the Lake Chad Basin — including vulnerable downstream communities in Yobe State.

The exercise promoted improved coordination, communication, and collaboration among all disaster management stakeholders, while equipping local emergency responders with critical skills and updated knowledge to respond swiftly and effectively.

With the 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction by NiMet and the Annual Flood Outlook by NIHSA identifying Jigawa, Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara as high-risk flood states, Yobe’s proactive participation signals its resolve to safeguard lives and livelihoods as overflow of water from Kano Jigawa enroute Lake Chad affects Yobe State

Yobe SEMA extends sincere appreciation to NEMA, Kano State Government, and all partners for their dedication and support in advancing disaster preparedness across the region.
