SUBSIDY REMOVAL: YOBE STATE PALLIATIVE DISTRIBUTION UPDATE 31st August 2023

SUBSIDY REMOVAL: YOBE STATE PALLIATIVE DISTRIBUTION UPDATE 31st August 2023

The Yobe State Palliative Distribution Committee wishes to update the public on the progress and efforts made so far, as well as the approaches taken by the committee to fulfil this important public mandate across the state, as directed by His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni CON. The Committee is mindful of the public’s plight and the need to reach as many households as possible with a food basket.

1. The committee has so far supported over 18,000 households, comprising about 81,000 individuals (4.5 individuals per household), across 13 categories of beneficiaries:

– IDPs in self-set camps and host communities

– Persons living with disabilities (PLWD)

– Pregnant and lactating mothers

– Widows

– Orphans, orphanages, and women-headed households

– Elderly individuals above 60 and the vulnerable

– Victims of floods

– Vulnerable state and local government area civil servants

– NURTW, NARTO, NAPEP, and other commercial transporters

– Youth groups and students

– NYSC participants

– Security personnel

– Laborers

Damaturu, Fune, Jakusko, and Potiskum communities have received phase 1 support of the subsidy palliative from August 10th to August 30th, 2023, by the state palliative committee’s distribution schedule.

The committee will continue similar palliative distribution in Bade, Gulani, Bursari, and Geidam LGAs by the approved state palliative distribution plan.

Given the above, the general public is hereby informed of the progress update, and equally importantly, the public is encouraged to cooperate with this noble cause for the benefit of citizens across the state.

Nigerian Labour Congress, Civil Society Organizations, traditional, community, and religious leaders, youth and women’s groups, security personnel, and other stakeholders in each LGA will be continuously contacted through stakeholder engagement before commencement.

While this is ongoing, we wish to commend the efforts and support of LGAs, elected officials, individuals, groups, and community-based organizations at any level in supporting vulnerable persons.

The committee will strengthen its accountability mechanisms, mobilize more resources, and ensure that interventions reach the target of 400,000 households judiciously within the government’s available resources.
