National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) Donates relief materials to Mafa Victims In Yobe State
In a concerted effort to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yobe State, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Goje Mohammed, led a resource mobilization visit to the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) on Thursday, September 12, 2024. The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration and secure support for victims of both the recent flood and the Mafa community attack in Tarmuwa Local Government.
During the meeting, Dr. Goje conveyed the warm greetings of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, to the commission. He expressed deep appreciation to the Federal Commissioner, Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Aliyu, for the ongoing support and excellent working relationship with the Yobe State Government. Dr. Goje highlighted the challenges posed by the recent flood disaster, which has devastated Yobe State, affecting 441 communities and 20,181 households, totaling 50,631 individuals. The disaster has resulted in the destruction of 30,848 houses and 65 critical public facilities, 34 fatalities, 386 injuries, and an estimated financial loss of NGN 19.6 billion.
Dr. Goje called on the NCFRMI to continue its vital support to the Yobe State Government, particularly in addressing the immediate needs of flood and conflict victims.
In response, Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Aliyu commended the Yobe State Government for its proactive response under Governor Mai Mala Buni’s leadership and assured continuous collaboration. As part of NCFRMI’s commitment to relief efforts, the Federal Commissioner announced the donation of various relief items to support the Mafa victims. These items include 100 bags of rice, 100 cartons of spaghetti, 100 bundles of roofing zinc, irrigation water pumps, and educational materials such as tables, chairs, and exercise books.
This contribution will significantly bolster the ongoing relief efforts in Mafa, where displaced households continue to grapple with the aftermath of the attack. Yobe SEMA, in partnership with federal and humanitarian organizations, remains dedicated to ensuring timely support for affected communities.
