Governor Buni directs SEMA to immediately support flood victims across the state.

 

Over the fast few weeks from April through June 2024, SEMA have received distress reports and recorded flood incidences across over 30 communities in 12 LGAs.

 

The incidences are mostly due to heavy windstorm and rainfall recorded across those communities. Based on the findings, a total of 4,976 HHs (10,845 individuals) with over 14, 082 room mostly MUD ROOM SHELTERs, wall perimeters and toilet/WaSH facilities in 47 communities across twelve (12) LGAs (Yunusari, Nguru, Nangere, Gujba, Damaturu, Fika, Bade, Bursari, Yusufari, Geidam, Machina and Karasuwa LGAs).

 

Similalry, in terms of public facility, College of Health and Technolgy Nguru was severly affected, with other schools across in the affected LGAs.

 

In the worse affected 7 LGAs of DTR,NAN,NGU,BADE,YUN,FIKA and GUL, the incidence led to displacement of over 1385 household affecting 1969 shelters and sadly 9 deaths were recorded across 4 LGAs.

 

SEMA LEMC alongside LGA team and community volunteers have intensified evacuation, profiling and ensuring commiseration with victims as SEMA intensifies effort to support vicitms as directed by His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni. While validating the findings and mobilising the resources, we urge on community members to be their brothers keepers at this trying times and also called on LGA team to intensify sensitization especially HIGH RISK AREAS.
