Governor Buni Directs Continued Support to IDPs and Vulnerable Persons

In a continued effort to alleviate the hardships faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable groups, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has extended its support to 250 registered households, encompassing approximately 500 to 750 individuals. This initiative took place at a self-set camp along Gujba Road in Damaturu.

Following a directive from His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, who received reports of the settlement, SEMA promptly responded to the needs of the affected individuals. The beneficiaries, who were profiled and supported at their doorsteps to ensure accountability, include mostly women-headed households, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable individuals identified through community leaders and spot assessments.

Each household received one or a combination of the following items:

25 kg bags of rice
A carton of pasta
A carton of macaroni
A combo food basket containing:
Semovita
Flour
Noodles
Vegetable oil
Sugar
Salt
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Governor Buni for the timely intervention and prayed for continued peace in the state.

Leading the distribution, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr. Goje Mohammed, assured the public that such support would continue within available resources, especially for other hard-to-reach communities during this challenging period.

In a related development, SEMA mourns the loss of one of its dedicated volunteer photographers, Bakura Mohammed. A promising young entrepreneur, worked under the guidance of Emergency Photographer Joshua David (JJ Photos). Known for his quick learning and punctuality, Bakura’s untimely passing is a significant loss to the team. He will be greatly missed.
