Flood Response Update: NEDC Conducts Assessment Visits to Flood-Damaged Roads and Bridges in Yobe state

In response to a request for support from His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, the Managing Director of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Mohd G. Alkali, led a high-level mission to Yobe State to assess the damage caused by recent floods. This mission aims to align with the state government’s efforts to address the disaster’s impact.

The NEDC team, including Executive Director of Finance & Administration Dr. Abubakar Garba Iliya and NEDC Coordinator Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, along with other senior management and technical members, visited areas severely affected by the flooding. Their focus was on the five major roads and bridges that were disconnected by the floods. The team also supervised ongoing drainage clearance projects supported by the NEDC across the state.

This initiative, along with other responses from state and federal government agencies in infrastructure, livelihood, and shelter, is expected to mitigate the challenges caused by the flooding in Yobe State.

As of today, over 19,000 households have been affected by the floods, with numerous injuries and fatalities reported across 432 communities and villages in 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state. The response efforts are ongoing, as directed by Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, to provide relief and support to the affected populations.
