Farmer-Herders Conflict


Yobe SEMA, UN-OCHA and iMMAP embarks on a Joint Field Mission to validate a five (5) year (2018 to 2023) retrospective data on Farmers and Herders conflicts received from the 17 LGAs of Yobe State.


The aim of the mission is to:


1.Present the completed/submitted data received from the LGAs and run through the different columns to validate and confirm it

2.To conduct an indepth analysis of the contributing factors to the herders/ farmers conflict in the LGA

3.To ascertain measure as to how further conflicts may be mitigated

4.To ascertain what has been the role of the different local stakeholders in resolving / reducing tension and how can such efforts be supported by the state government

5.Finally how and by who (whether the affected households have been assisted and how effective have the assistance be/ What can be done differently to improve their conditions).


The participants include the LGA Chairman, Head of Agric, LGA Information officer, LGA Security Officer, CDO, member of LEMC, Representatives from Farmers Association/groups (AFAN), Livestock Rearers/breeders Association/groups (Miyetti Allah, Kullel Allah, Kautal Hore), traditional institution/emirates, religious leaders (Chief Imam, JNI, CAN), women association/groups, youth groups/association, Nigerian Police Force, Civil Defense Corps, Representative of Vigilantè groups, DSS, LGA Veterinary Supervisors among others.


The mission is on phases, the 1st phase targets the four (4) LGAs in Yobe West consisting of Fika, Fune, Nangere and Potiskum from 15th to 18th January 2024, and subsequent phases and LGAs will follow immediately.
