ES YOSEMA, DR. GOJE MEETS VP, SEN. KASHIM AT THE 80TH UNGA
At the peak of the closing events of the UNGA 80th Session, the executive secretary of YOSEMA, Dr. Goje Mohammed had the rare privilege of meeting the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Sen. Kashim Shettima, GCON.
During their exchange, the Vice President warmly commended Governor Mai Mala Buni’s remarkable efforts in engaging young people in governance and applauded the progress made in strengthening the health sector in Yobe State.
He also shared insights about his foundation’s ongoing support for post–kidney transplant patients across the region. Though reluctant to dwell on the philanthropic side of his work—insisting that giving back is simply a duty—he humbly acknowledged the deep ties between Yobe and Borno, recalling his family roots in Gashua and Garin Alkali.
What stood out most was his heartfelt encouragement to the delegation: to look beyond their immediate environment, think outside the box, embrace the role of change-makers, and never fail their generation. He emphasized that the lessons from the UNGA 80th should not be left behind in New York but carried forward in building a stronger Nigeria.
Above all, his humility was evident. He spoke with clarity and depth about the challenges facing the region, the vital role of young people in shaping Nigeria’s future, and his optimism that, in time, the nation will look back with pride at the transformations under His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Insha Allah.
As they parted ways, the Vice President returned to an issue close to his heart—kidney disease. He applauded the ongoing research in Yobe and reiterated his personal passion and commitment, through his foundation, to supporting initiatives that will one day bring an end to this scourge in the region.
Meeting the Vice President was an inspiring highlight of Dr Goje’s UNGA 80th experience, marking a deeply fulfilling moment at this global gathering.
