GARIN KOLO UPDATE – 1 WEEK AFTER RELOCATION – 3RD SEPTEMBER 2025

It’s been exactly one week since the relocation and reintegration of the Garin Kolo flood victims, and the journey so far tells a story of hope, resilience, and collective responsibility.

-Lives saved.
-Disease outbreaks curtailed.
-Families beginning to rebuild.

Thanks to the leadership of His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, who ensured no one was left behind, the enabling environment created has allowed partners, humanitarian actors, and community leaders to move from talk to action.

A. SEMA, with support from UNOCHA has consistently provided SITREP leading to sustained back-to-back mobilization/distributions of NFIs, dignity kits, shelter materials, food baskets, water support, and farming inputs.

B. Traditional institutions and security actors have provided oversight, protection, and hope—ensuring a safe space for families to adapt to their new normal.

C. SEMA Will engage YOGIS and LGA land dept for Land demarcation and allocation processes to fast-track rebuilding of permanent homes.

Recovery is not instant, but together we are building back better.

Today we have additional support from:

A. 100 households received farming inputs (ACRESAL)

B. 250 households got Full Package NFI & dignity kits (ACF)

C. Continued distribution of tarpaulins (UNHCR)

As we take note of these milestones, we recognize there are still gaps to fill—but with sustained support, resilience will rise stronger than the floodwaters that displaced this community.

Special thanks to all partners, traditional leaders, security agencies, and every hand that continues to make this response possible.

Dr Goje ES SEMA while visiting team to motivate and supervise field activity called on all stakeholders to keep the conversation alive, as he asked? What more can be done to support displaced families beyond relief materials?
